Skid Lids are Super Cool!

Last Monday Tucker suffered a bad concussion while skating a ramp at his friends house and is now suffering with the aftermath of that and the whiplash that came with it. He fell backwards and hit the back of his head on the metal coping at the top of the ramp. He blacked out and lost his vision for a minute and now almost a week later is completely hating life! If you have never had a concussion like the one he has, let me just tell you, it is the worst!

He suffers with a headache that is worse than a migraine and he has felt nauseous, dizzy, foggy, moody, sore and bored because he is not suppose to do much cognitive thinking while he recovers. Recovery can take anywhere from 6 weeks to 6 months!

He has missed a week of school and has done nothing but go to the Doctor, Chiropractor and lay on the bed or couch. He tried to watch a movie last night with his friend Maddy, but is now curled up in a ball on the couch feeling worse than ever.

I'm telling you this because, for one it's what has been happening this week, and I'm documenting it, but also, I really hope that each of us will make better choices while we are out doing the things we love to do, by wearing protective gear!!!!

Now, even if Tucker had been wearing a helmet he probably would have still been injured, but definitely not as bad. Can we somehow make the Skid Lid cool to wear, not to mention the accessories that could go with it...wrist guards, knee pads, elbow pads, hip pads, bubble wrap?

  1. 1st of all, so glad Tucker doesn't have brain damaged or worse! Poor guy. Poor mom.

2nd of all, what is uncool about protective gear? Is it cool when surfers die, or riders get paralyzed? I know a lot of that stuff isn't preventable by wearing protective gear, but people get that these hobbies are potentially really dangerous right? scary!

  3. I am so so sorry. In fact I am sick. I remember his first one years ago (no safety oversight then, a victim of someone else's carelessness) and am troubled that we are now in multiples. I will be calling, too late tonight. Love to all, especially him.
